What is the Builder Association of the Twin Cities (BATC)?

The BATC, formally known as the Builders Association of Twin Cities – Housing First Minnesota Foundation, is a non profit foundation, with the mission of using partnerships to provide safe, quality, affordable housing for those in need. The Foundation accomplishes this by partnering with its members in building projects that provide assistance to families, veterans and organizations in need of building or remodeling improvements. They also provide scholarships to young people entering the construction industry. The foundation was established in 1995 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015.
The BATC is a leader in charitable projects in the Twin Cities, and a great way to get involved in community outreach. Beyond, giving back the community, there several benefits to being a member of the BATC.

Being a member can save money and increase business opportunities

The BATC brings works with businesses throughout the building and remodeling industry and seeks out products and services at rates that are not normally available on the street. Members will have the chance to work with some of these providers, compare rates and services, and see if what they have to offer provides better cost or better service.

Members are a part of an association connected to over 500 builders and remodelers and over 500 associate members. There is access to well trafficked advertising spaces in the quarterly member magazine, online at and in the annual member directory. Members have the opportunity to participate in an award winning industry trade show (BRS), with roughly 1,000 builders, remodelers, architects and interior designers attending. Business will also have the opportunity to participate in the the BATC Parade of Homes and Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase. These showcases are considered some of the best in the country and provide high volume customer exposure at a cost effective price.

Network with others in the area

One of the most important values of joining any organization, is the opportunity to share and learn from others in the area. Having a strong network of builders and remodelers, means that there is the opportunity to collect and share ideas that can make operations more efficient, introduce new products, open up new markets, discover new services, and learn about the latest trends in the business. The BATC makes it a priority to connect builders and remodelers to create these opportunities, including:

  • Events and meetings that bring members together for social networking
  • Membership directories (print and online) with contact names and information
  • Opportunity to join special interest groups like developers, remodelers, salespeople and marketers
  • Annual BIG Night (Building Industry Gala) celebrating the residential construction industry

An organization who represents your interests

Laws and regulations passed by city councils and legislatures have a significant impact on the business of builders and remodelers. It’s important to be actively involved and supporting an organization that will represent a builders interests in the political world, so that well-informed and common sense policies are put in place. The BATC is an active participant in local politics. In 2011, the BATC was instrumental in passing a new law fixing a variance standard that was preventing cities from granting variances for construction. The law passed helped to get the law changed, and allowed cities to grant more variances on building projects.

Keep up to date with the latest news and trends

Pace of change and innovation is accelerating in the building and remodeling industry, just as it is in every sector of the world economy. The BATC tries to provide members with quality information about the latests trends and developments in the field.
There is the Weekly VOICE newsletter which provides members with the latest news in the home building and remodeling industry. It includes:

  • Monthly Hot Sheet, a compilation of statistics and data key for residential industry success
  • A variety of online resources at and consumer-directed information at
  • Comprehensive continuing education programs for contractor and real estate licensing under BATC University
  • Continuing education courses are also offered for Minnesota and Wisconsin contractors, realtors and building officials, through their
  • Contractor University. These courses are approved to provide continuing education credits for the following:
  • MN Residential Building Contractor, Remodeler and Roofer credits through the MN Dept. of Labor & Industry.
  • MN Real Estate credits through the MN Dept. of Commerce
  • WI Dwelling Contractor Qualifier credits through the WI Dept. of Safety and Professional Services
  • MN Building Official credits through the MN Dept. of Labor & Industry
